A word from the Master of the Chair

Who seeks,
shall find.

Your interest in Freemasonry bears witness to a sincere wish to reflect upon yourself and upon your responsibility as a human being. Freemasonry as practised within the Grand National Mother Lodge „Zu den drei Weltkugeln" (At the Three Globes) is not a society for gaining outward advantage, but a path of inner work, of self-examination and moral steadfastness, borne by the fellowship of the brethren.

The lodge unites men of good reputation who are conscious of their freedom and prepared to join that freedom to responsibility. In reverence before God, in fidelity to conscience and duty, and in the spirit of fraternal bond, they strive to work upon themselves, that they may better serve their neighbour and mankind. The teaching of Freemasonry speaks in images and symbols — our signs of meaning; it calls for stillness, reflection, and the readiness to let what has been recognised become effective in daily life.

Whoever harbours the wish to enter upon this path must walk it in sincerity, humility and with an open heart. Freemasonry gives no ready-made answers; it poses questions that lead to self-knowledge, and demands the accord of word and deed. Each brother remains responsible for his own way, and yet never stands alone.

Should you resolve to pursue this path further, you will find brethren who stand by your side with counsel, example and fraternal closeness — not to direct you, but to accompany you. The work within the lodge is a quiet, enduring task, whose end is the perfection of man in the service of his fellows.

So may your interest be welcome. The door of the lodge opens to those who seek in honest intent and are ready to work upon themselves.

Receive our fraternal greeting.

Our principles

Spirituality, morality, virtue, duty

Four essential traits that have borne Masonic work since 1723 — and which we seek to keep alive in the daily practice of the lodge.

Spirituality

The attuning of human life to the harmony of the universe — experienced in the ritual, not merely in the word.

Morality & Ethics

Grounded in universal principles that recur in every major religion and philosophy.

Virtue

The capacity, in the widest sense, to do good — free from egoism and vanity.

Duty

The unshakeable calling of the spirit to virtue — even against outward hindrances.

What the lodge means to us

Voices from the brethren

The testimonials below remain in the original German — they are the personal voices of individual brothers, and translation would blunt their tone. A brief summary: brothers describe the lodge as a place of genuine encounter, moral work, stillness, and fraternity across backgrounds and beliefs.

I.S.

Frequently asked questions

What you often wish to know

Brief, clear answers about Freemasonry, our lodge, and the path toward a first conversation.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is a fellowship dedicated to ethical work on oneself. Its aim is the gradual refinement of the human being in service to others. It rests on universal principles found in every major religion and philosophy, and speaks through symbols and long-established rituals.

What makes the Beethoven Lodge in Bonn distinctive?

The Johannisloge Beethoven zur ewigen Harmonie was founded in 1923 and installed in its present form as a just and perfect lodge in Bonn in 1928. Since 1950 it belongs to the Grand National Mother Lodge „Zu den drei Weltkugeln", but keeps its own ritual inherited from the Symbolische Großloge von Deutschland, and preserves a Rhenish, liberal, tolerant character.

Who can become a Freemason?

The lodge is open to men of good character who wish to work on themselves in sincere intent. What matters is the readiness for self-examination, tolerance and fraternal commitment — not origin, station, or confession.

Where does the lodge meet?

The lodge works in the Bonn Logenhaus at Dyroffstraße 2, 53113 Bonn. Meetings are typically held on Saturdays; the detailed schedule is published on the Arbeitskalender page.

How do I get in touch?

Please write to kontakt@loge-beethoven.de. Rather than a large open evening, we prefer a first personal conversation with a brother. A further encounter can then take place, usually once a month, at our table (Tafel).

A first conversation

A letter is enough.

Rather than a large open evening for visitors, we prefer a first personal conversation with a brother of our lodge. Write to us — we endeavour to reply without delay.
